As a photographer, I focus on documenting the many changes in society and domestic life that are taking place on our planet today. I've been lucky enough to have traveled extensively through East Asia and the developing parts of Europe during the last 15 years. These experiences have helped me develop an interesting insight into the pervasiveness of Western culture, and how it is imitated (and mutated) around the world. My main photographic interest is the emergence of Asia on the world stage, as well as the struggle for survival of Asia's traditional customs and lifestyles. I am currently building a body of work that depicts life in the old neighborhoods of the cities of China, particularly Shanghai. Many of China's traditional urban settings are slated for demolition within the next 2 or 3 years in order to make room for modernization. As a new mother, I also find great joy in working with children, especially infants and toddlers. I use a photojournalistic style to capture rare and fleeting moments of emotion in the faces of these young, uninhibited people. I am based in Shanghai, where I am available for on-location children's and family portraiture, as well as event and documentary photography. |
